How To: connect to the iPhone via SSH (Win)

These are the steps to follow to connect your Windows PC to your iPhone via SSH using WinSCP:

  • install OpenSSH from Cydia
  • download WinSCP here
  • when the installation is completed, this login dialog appears:

  • go to Settings->WiFi in your iPhone, choose your connection and tap the blue arrow to get the iPhone IP address
  • type the IP address into the Host name field
  • type root into the User name field
  • type alpine into the Password field
  • click on the Login button
  • a message box will appear; click Yes and wait until the PC establishes a connection to your iPhone..
  • ..done! Now a dialog will show up: the panel on the right displays the folders of the iPhone, the one on the left shows the folders of your PC.. now you can drag & drop files, rename them and make other files operations as if you are using Explorer..

    Hey IPR,

    I keep getting “access denied”

    @sidney:
an ‘access denied’ error occurs if username and/or password are incorrect.. did you change the default ‘alpine’ password?

    Aaaah,

Yes I did change it while offshore and when I got inland I forgot what it was. I uninstalled Winscp but it still denied me access. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Sid

Is there a way to connect to Winscp via openSSH other than using WIFI? The way that my wireless internet is set up, you have to log in and you can’t be logged in to more than one place at a time (iPhone and computer). It’s the government barracks internet for the military. Theres got to be a way any suggestions?
